Sparrow: Walking the Lines

Tame My Will

Can I tame my will?

No.

Even this poem

displays a stubborn will.

Eat The Bible

Go ahead,

you son of a bitch,

eat the Bible!

Grab The Book of Genesis

and chew!

Up Is Far

Up is far--

into the air, clouds, space, stars,

beyond!

Down is close--

the ground on which I stand.

Salt Puzzle

Close your eyes, and spill

salt from a saltshaker.

Open your eyes.

Determine which grain of salt

fell from each hole of

the saltshaker.

Dream: I was instructing a young Puerto Rican woman,

with acne, about yoga. I explained the "Hare Krishna"

chant, and began to sing it. Suddenly, everyone around

me joined in, swelling in a huge, fervid chorus.

(Around me were many monks from Ananda Marga.) I

awoke.

Roads

In order to travel from one town to another, one must

use a road. There is no other way. Even walkers walk

along the road.

Imagine if there were no roads. Travel would be so

taxing. One would drive for a few miles, across

meadows and streams, until the car broke down.

Thereafter, one would walk.

One would walk through the forest, until one came to a

fence. One would leap over the fence to find a man

named Ron holding a rifle. "Leave my land!" Ron would

shout. One would race across this property, and climb

the further fence. There an angry bull, black with a

white spot on its chest, would face one. Slowly, one

would back away from this intelligent beast. But

behind one would be Ron, with his loaded rifle.

We must thank our ancestors who wisely laid out roads!

Better Than Elvis

Is Brahms

better than Elvis?

No.

He is just more ...

solitary.

Under Gown

Under my gown

I wear a thin

plastic kelsu,

to inhibit lust.
